- Played 3 seasons with Windsor of the Ontario Hockey League, winning Memorial Cups each of his last 2 seasons with the Spitfires (2009 and 2010).
- The first two-time winner (2009-10) of the Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy as Memorial Cup tournament MVP.
- Represented Canada at the 2010 World Junior Championship in Saskatoon (silver medal) along with current teammates Jordan Eberle and Colten Teubert.
