BARONS & EDMOND NATIVE MATT DONOVAN AMONG HONOREES AT MARCH OF DIMES SPORTS HEADLINER BANQUET

The 37th Annual March of Dimes Mercy Sports Headliner Banquet, is June 20 beginning with a cocktail reception and silent auction at 6 p.m. at the Bricktown Ballpark in downtown Oklahoma City.
The Sports Headliner of the Year for 2013 is Minnesota Vikings and University of Oklahoma attendee Adrian Peterson. Returning from a full knee reconstruction, Peterson went on to lead the NFL in rushing during the 2012 season and accumulated the second greatest rushing yard total in NFL history. Peterson will accept his award by video.
Greg Gumbel, one of the premier sports broadcasters in the industry, has been confirmed as the host for the event. Gumbel’s ties to the March of Dimes run deep as he served as a member of the March of Dimes Board of Trustees for 10 years. After completing the maximum terms allowed, he has served as a member of the March of Dimes National Board of Advisors for the past four years.
Every year, the March of Dimes holds the banquet to honor athletes, coaches and teams who have taken center stage and brought national attention to the state of Oklahoma. The success of the event helps the March of Dimes continue to successfully save babies lives. The money raised goes to funding March of Dimes programs helping premature babies, newborns with birth defects and research to prevent infant mortality.
Other award winners in attendance will be Edmond native Matt Donovan who became the first hockey player born and raised in Oklahoma to play in the NHL, Alan Trimble, head coach of the Jenks High School football program, the Oklahoma City Barons hockey team and the annual High School Scholar Athletes of the year.

The 1930’s themed event begins with a VIP Reception for sponsors and media in the Diamond Lounge on the Club Level at Bricktown Ballpark. The reception is followed by the awards dinner on the field at the Ballpark at 7 p.m. Tables are still available.
