OILERS RECALL PAAJARVI & O'MARRA; PLACE BRULE ON RE-ENTRY WAIVERS

General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have recalled forwards Magnus Paajarvi and Ryan O’Marra from the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League and have placed Gilbert Brule on re-entry waivers.

Paajarvi was assigned to Oklahoma City December 16 and made an immediate impact, notching a highlight-reel shootout goal in his first game with the Barons on December 17 against Houston. He appeared in 10 games with Oklahoma City, registering nine points (1-8-9). He has appeared in 25 games with the Oilers this season, registering three assists. The Oilers 1st round draft choice (10th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft has 37 points (15-22-37) in 105 NHL games.

O’Marra has played in 34 games with the Barons this season, recording 16 points (7-9-16). This marks his second call up by Edmonton this season. During his first call up with the Oilers, he played in three games and registered an assist. Originally a 1st round draft choice (15th overall) of the New York Islanders in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, O’Marra has played in 27 NHL games where he has recorded seven points (1-6-7).

Brule was assigned to Oklahoma City at the start of the season. He has appeared in 27 games with the Barons, recording 18 points (8-10-18). His goal, assist and point totals are all good for third on the team. Originally a 1st round draft choice (6th overall) of the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Brule has played in 263 NHL games with Columbus and Edmonton, scoring 81 points (38-43-81).

In a separate transaction, the Oklahoma City Barons released Sean Erickson from his PTO.  He appeared in one game with the Barons.  He will return to the Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League where he is among the top-scoring defensemen in the league.

The Barons skate in three games this weekend, all at home. Friday, they take on the Rockford IceHogs at 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, the Barons battle their division rival the Abbotsford Heat. Faceoff Saturday is 7 p.m. Faceoff Sunday is 4 p.m.  All three games will be played at the Cox Convention Center.

Saturday is Team Poster Night. The first 2,000 fans through the doors will receive a team poster. Following the game Sunday, fans are invited to skate with the team following the game.
