BARONS ALL STARS TAKE PART IN ALL STAR SKILLS COMPETITION

The four players from of the Oklahoma City Barons selected for the AHL All Star Classic were in action earlier this afternoon at the All Star Skills Competition.

Philippe Cornet, the Barons’ leader in goals scored took part in the Puck Control Relay, the Rapid Fire contest and the Breakaway Relay.  Cornet is going to be a starter for the Western Conference squad. 

Fellow forward Ryan Keller took part in the final three events of the afternoon, the Accuracy Shooting, Pass and Score and the Breakaway Relay.  Keller broke all four targets in five shots to tie with Norfolk Admirals' Trevor Smith for the best percentage in the Accuracy Shooting competition.

Defenseman Alex Plante, also a starter for the Western Conference All Star team, participated in the Hardest Shot competition and the Breakaway Relay.  He scored in the breakaway relay and his hardest shot was recorded at 92.7 mph.

Goaltender Yann Danis took part in the standard goaltender competitions at an All Star Skills Competition, including the Rapid Shooter, Pass & Score and the Breakaway Relay.  In the Breakaway Relay, he stopped all six of the shooters from the Eastern Conference and stopped 12 of the 19 shots he faced.  Peoria netminder Ben Bishop was named top goaltender in the Skills Competition for stopping 16 of 19 shots.

After the dust settled, the Western Conference All Stars defeated the Eastern Conference All Stars 18-10.

Barons head coach Todd Nelson will guide the Western Conference at the AHL All Star Classic tomorrow at 6 p.m.  The game will be televised locally on FoxSports Southwest Plus.  Check local listings for details.

The Barons will host a watch party tomorrow night at Buffalo Wild Wings on NW Expressway.  The game will begin at the same time as Barons Weekly.  The guest tomorrow night will be assistant coach Rocky Thompson.
