OILERS SIGN THREE PLAYERS ON FIRST DAY OF FREE AGENCY

The Edmonton Oilers, parent club of the Oklahoma City Barons, signed three players on the first day teams were able to sign free agents.  The Oilers signed veteran forwards Ryan Smyth, and Darcy Hordichuk and goaltender Yann Danis.

Smyth, a 17-year NHL veteran, signed a two-year deal to stay with the Oilers.  Last season, he skated in all 82 games with the Oilers and scored 46 points (19-27-46).  The Oilers 1st round draft choice in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft (#6 overall) has played in 1,151 games in the NHL and scored 806 points (374-432-806).  click here to read more

Hordichuk, a 6-1, 211-pounder played 43 games for Edmonton last season, recording three points (1-2-3) and serving 64 penalty minutes.  In 538 NHL games, he has registered 41 points (20-21-41) and served 1,138 penalty minutes with Atlanta, Vancouver, Phoenix, Florida, Nashville and Edmonton.  click here to read more

Barons fans are familiar with Danis.  Last season in Oklahoma City, Danis posted a 26-14-5 record, 2.07 goals against average and .924 save percentage en route to AHL Goaltender of the Year honors.  He was also selected to the represent the Western Conference at the AHL All Star Classic and was named goaltender for the All AHL First Team. click here for an interview with Yann Danis
