NELSON EARNS WESTERN CONFERENCE COACHING ALL STAR COACHING NOD
By Josh Evans, OKC BaronsBy way of the Barons 6-0 win over Houston, Oklahoma City Barons head coach Todd Nelson earned the nod as coach for the Western Conference All Stars at the upcoming American Hockey League All Star Classic.
In his second season with the Barons, Nelson has guided the team to the best record in the American Hockey League. The Barons 48 standings points and .706 winning percentage are tops in the league and their 22 wins is tied for the most. Last season, he guided the Barons to a 40-20-2-9 record and a birth in the Calder Cup playoffs.
Prior to heading the Barons coaching staff, Nelson served four seasons as an assistant in the Atlanta Thrashers organization. Two as an assistant with the Thrashers and two with their AHL affiliate, the Chicago Wolves. He won a Calder Cup with Chicago in 2008. He began his career as a head coach with the Muskegon Fury of the United Hockey League. In 232 games over three seasons with Muskegon, he compiled a 149-58-25 record and two postseason championships.
The 2012 AHL All Star Classic is January 29 – 30 in Atlantic City, N.J.
