ICE CREW AND VOLUNTEERS GETTING READY TO PAINT THE ICE
By Jennifer Cochran , on 09/12/2013
Preparation for the Barons 2013-14 season continues. Starting September 16 the Cox Convention Center crew will start preparing the arena and will start laying down the ice with the help of our two contest winners.
On the morning of September 16, the Cox Convention Center crew will start the 48 hour process of laying down the ice. This year the crew will be joined by the contest winners Patricia Teter and Angela Martin. The process will begin by lowering the temperature of the arena floor until it is able to freeze a think coat of water. After the first coat of water has solidified, crews along with our contest winners will paint the thin coat of ice white along with the face-off circles, goal creases, blue lines, and the red line. Once the lines have been painted, the crew will install the team and sponsor logos and will continually add more layers of water until the surface of the ice is at an appropriate thickness.
This is the second year to have volunteers join the crew to help prepare the ice. It gives fans the opportunity to go behind the scenes and help prepare the rink for the upcoming season. This season, the NHL showcase will be the first match up to take place on the freshly prepared ice.
Join us for the NHL showcase presented by Mercy on Friday September 27 featuring the Edmonton Oilers and the Dallas Stars in a NHL pre-season game. For more information about tickets, call the Barons office at 232-GOAL.
Oklahoma CIty will kick off their season with a weekend opening celebration on October 4 and 5. The opening weekend the Barons will match up against the Charlotte Checkers, the weekend will feature glow stick and clingz giveaways, concession specials on Friday night, and post-game player autographs on Saturday.
