SALUTE TO HEROES
By Josh Evans, OKC Barons on 11/01/2013
The Oklahoma City Barons are celebrating military and first responder service at several games during the 2013-14 season, including Devon Salute to Heroes night Saturday, April 19 when the Barons host the Iowa Wild.
Faceoff for the Barons game is at 7 p.m., but the action starts at 3:45 p.m. when a group of police, fire fighters and first responders from Oklahoma City square off with a group of their counterparts from Dallas. The group is competing for the Chad Peery Cup, named for the Oklahoma City police officer permanently injured two years ago attempting to break up an altercation. Last season, the group from Dallas won the Cup.
Tickets for that night’s Barons game allow fans to watch the pregame contest between the first responders. Fans wishing to attend the game at 3:45 p.m. are asked to enter the buidling after 3:15 p.m. from the Northeast entrance. Seating for the Guns-N-Hoses game is limited to sections on the East side of the Cox Convention Center.
A portion of the proceeds from tickets purchased through the Barons office for this night benefit the Chad Peery Foundation. Fans will need to mention “Guns n Hoses” when calling the Barons office for the funds to be donated to his foundation. Representatives from the Chad Peery Foundation will have a presence on the concourse during the game. Donations will be accepted during the game.
As part of the night, Devon Energy is providing Rally Towels for the first 5,000 fans through the doors.
Devon Energy is partnering with the Barons for a season-long campaign to recognize the efforts of active duty military personnel in and around the state of Oklahoma. For six games during the 2013-14 season, Devon is providing 300 tickets to active duty military personnel and their families (limit 4 per family). Fans may also participate in the program. For the third consecutive season, the Barons are participating in their Seats for Soldiers program. Individuals or companies may purchase tickets for the game on April 19 that will be donated to local retired and active duty military service men and women. Over the last two seasons, the Barons donated nearly 1,000 tickets.
Barons Season Seat Holders also have the opportunity to participate by donating any un-used Season Seats for the military personnel to utilize. Call 405-232-GOAL for more information on the program. Deadline to purchase Seats for Soldiers is Tuesday, April 16.
