CORNET RECALLED BY EDMONTON

The Edmonton Oilers recalled Barons forward Philippe Cornet, Oilers General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today.

Cornet, a 6-0, 196-pounder from Val-Senneville, PQ currently leads the Barons in goals scored (20) and is second on the team in points (27).  He is tied for the league lead in game-winning goals (6) and is second in the league in shooting percentage (30.3%).  He played for the Western Conference All Star Team last night at the AHL All Star Classic and was voted a starter by the fans.

He was drafted by the Oilers in the 5th round (133rd overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.  Cornet played four seasons in the QMJHL with Rimouski and Rouyn-Noranda.  In 235 games between the two teams, he recorded 224 points (87-137-224).  In each of his last three seasons, he scored at least 23 goals.


Cornet is expected to join the Oilers in Edmonton in advance of their game against the Colorado Avalanche at 8:30 p.m. (ct).

The Barons return to regular season action Thursday when they host the San Antonio Rampage.  Friday, they host the Charlotte Checkers.  Faceoff for both games is 7 p.m. at the Cox Convention Center.  Both games can be heard on the Barons flagship station, 96.1 KXY.
