BARONS LOOKING FOR ASSISTANTS TO HELP PAINT THE ICE AT COX CONVENTION CENTER

By Josh Evans, OKC Barons on 08/26/2013

Although the first hockey game won’t be played in Oklahoma City for over 30 days, preparations for the 2013-14 hockey season are well underway. The biggest piece of the puzzle is the creation of the ice surface at the Cox Convention Center. The staff of the Cox Convention Center and the Barons are looking for two volunteers to assist in creating the ice surface for the 2013-14 hockey season.

The morning of September 16, crews from the Cox Convention Center begin the process of installing the ice surface on the floor of the building. The day starts with chilling the floor to the proper temperature, then the addition of several coats of white paint-laced water before the addition of the lines, circles, creases and logos. Two lucky Barons fans can be there assisting. Fans that enter must be at least 18 years of age or older.

SMG and the Barons are choosing two fans to spend the entire day (or part of the day) at the Cox Convention Center installing the ice surface. If chosen, you will have paint spilled on your clothes, so wear something you don’t mind getting dirty. Fans may enter a variety of ways, including taking the brief survey below, taking the brief survey by clicking on this link , the Barons Facebook page and by monitoring the team’s Twitter feed @okcbarons.

Hockey season begins in Oklahoma City on Friday, September 27 with the NHL Showcase presented by Mercy when the Edmonton Oilers host the Dallas Stars in an NHL Preseason game. For more information about tickets, call the Barons office at 232-GOAL.

Oklahoma City opens their 38-game home schedule with a weekend set of games October 4 and 5. In addition to the home opener, the Barons are scheduled to play at home November 12, 15 and 16 and December 20 and 21. The Barons annual Education Field Trip Day will be November 12. The remainder of the schedule will be announced later this summer.
