The Oklahoma City Barons signed defenseman Michael Marcou to an ATO (Amateur Tryout), General Manager Bill Scott announced today.

Marcou, a 5-11, 170-pounder from Kings Park, New York recently completed his fourth season of play with the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.  With the Minutemen, Marcou played in 117 games, scoring 43 points (17-26-43) and serving 77 penalty minutes.  Was named the UMass Athlete of the Week for his performance against Vermont in the Frozen Fenway in January where he scored two goals, including the overtime game winner.

Prior to his stint with UMass, he played two seasons with the Waterloo Black Hawks in the United States Hockey League.  With Waterloo, he appeared in 92 games, scoring 16 points (3-13-16) and serving 48 penalty minutes.

Marcou is the first player signed to an ATO by the Barons this season.

The Barons take another step toward clinching a playoff spot in the Calder Cup playoffs in two road games this weekend.  Friday, they take on the Milwaukee Admirals, AHL affiliate of the Nashville Predators, at 7 p.m.  Saturday, they finish their season series with the Grand Rapids Griffins, AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings.  Faceoff is 6 p.m.  Both games can be heard on the Barons flagship station, 96.1 KXY.
