BARONS SIGN GOALTENDER TYLER BUNZ TO AN ATO

The Oklahoma City Barons signed goaltender Tyler Bunz to an ATO (Amateur Tryout), General Manager Bill Scott announced today.

Bunz, a 6-1, 198-pounder from St. Albert, Alberta, was the Oilers 5th round draft choice (121st overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.  He has played the last four seasons with the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League.  During that time, he has appeared in 197 regular season games, posting a 2.72 goals against average, .911 save percentage and eight shutouts.

He has been a workhorse for the Tigers over the last three seasons, playing in 81 percent of the teams games.  Over those three seasons, he has collected 105 of the Tigers’ 129 regular season wins.  During the 11-12 season, Bunz save percentage of .921 was second amongst WHL goaltenders, while his win total (39) and goals against average (2.57) were among the top 5 in the league.

This season, Bunz was twice named the Vaughn Canadian Hockey League Goaltender of the Week, was named an Eastern Conference First Team All Star and is the Eastern Conference nominee for WHL Goaltender of Year. He became the Tigers franchise leader for regular season wins with 115 and earned team awards for Regular Season and Playoff Most Valuable Player.

The first two games of the series will be played at the Toyota Center in Houston.  Game 1 of the series is April 19 and starts at 7:05 p.m. from the Toyota Center in Houston.  Game 2 of the series is April 20 and starts at 7:35 p.m.

The first home game of the series for the Barons is Game 3 on April 22 at the Cox Convention Center at 7 p.m.  Should the series require Game 4, it will be played on April 24 at the Cox Convention Center at 7 p.m.  Should the series need a fifth game, it would be played April 25 at the Cox Convention Center at 7 p.m.
