OILERS AGREE TO TERMS WITH DANE BYERS
By Josh Evans, OKC BaronsThe Edmonton Oilers, parent club of the Oklahoma City Barons, signed forward Dane Byers to a one-year, two-way contract, General Manager Steve Tambellini officially announced today.
Byers, a 6-3, 220-pounder from Nipawin, Saskatchewan, played last season in the Columbus Blue Jackets organization, splitting time between Columbus and the Blue Jackets affiliate in Springfield, Mass. He skated in 61 games with the Falcons, scoring 39 points (18-21-39) and serving 108 penalty minutes. He played in eight games with Columbus, serving 29 penalty minutes.
Originally a 2nd round draft choice (48th overall) of the New York Rangers in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Byers has played the majority of his career in the American Hockey League with the Rangers affiliate in Hartford. In 385 games, he has recorded 238 points (100-138-238) and served 790 penalty minutes. Statistically his best season was the 2009-10 campaign when he scored 51 points (25-26-51) in 74 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack.
Prior to turning pro, Byers played four seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Prince Albert Raiders. In 236 games over four seasons, he scored 99 points (49-50-99) and served 518 penalty minutes. His best season was his final in Prince Albert when he scored 48 points (21-27-48) in 71 games.
