TONIGHT: The Barons seek a franchise-record sixth straight road win in the second of back-to-back games with the Grand Rapids Griffins (Detroit Red Wings). OKC took last night’s game, the first of the season between these teams, 4-2 for their club-record equaling fifth straight road win. Overall, OKC is 7-0-0-1 in its last 8 games, which is a club record unbeaten streak. Midwest Division-leader Grand Rapids is second in the conference with 65 points. OKC is 11th with 53. This is the middle of 3 games in 3 days for the Barons, who visit Toronto tomorrow at 3 pm CST.
OFF THE TOP: The Barons are over .500 for the first time all season at 23-22-1-6, a .510 standing point percentage. OKC’s 8-game unbeaten streak is a club record, eclipsing a 7-0-0-0 stretch from Jan. 15-Feb. 2, 2012 (in the AHL, shootout losses end winning streaks, but combine with victories to form unbeaten streaks. Only regulation and overtime losses are factored into losing streaks). The Barons’ current 5-game road winning streak matches the club record set on 3 prior occasions, most recently from Jan. 19-Feb. 11, 2012. Goaltender Richard Bachman has started all 8 games of the unbeaten streak, going 7-0-1 with a 2.95 goals-against average and .914 save percentage in that time (256 saves on 280 shots).
HOT HANDS: Roman Horak owns a 7-game point streak, on 7 goals and 6 assists. Horak has 5 points in the last 2 games. Brad Hunt notched his first professional 2-goal game last night and has 6 points in the past 2 games. Hunt has points in 8 of the last 9 outings, collecting 4 goals and 9 assists in that time. Anton Lander had an 8-game point streak snapped last night.  During the streak, he had 5 goals and 9 assists. Lander has a team-best 38 points (16G, 22A) in 35 games over 3 AHL stints. Since returning from his latest stint with Edmonton Jan. 4, Lander is tied for fourth in the AHL in points (23) on 7 goals and 16 assists in 17 games.
ARCOBELLO RETURNS: Mark Arcobello returned to the Barons’ lineup last night after missing the previous 3 games because of the NHL’s Olympic break. Arcobello, who opened the season with Edmonton and was loaned to the Barons Feb. 1, accumulated too much NHL service time this season to be eligible to play through the break in the AHL. With the Oilers, Arcobello had 4 goals and 14 assists in 41 games. Arcobello has points in all 4 games as a Baron, totaling 3 goals and 6 assists. Arcobello finished last season tied for third in the AHL in points with 68.
KLEFBOM SCORES HIS FIRST: Defenseman Oscar Klefbom, a first-round selection (19th overall) by Edmonton in 2011, scored his first North American professional goal last night. In 40 games during this rookie season, the 20-year-old native of Sweden has 1 goal and 6 assists.
BARONS-GRIFFINS: All-time in the regular season, the Barons are 9-4-0-4 against the Griffins, 4-2-0-3 at Van Andel Arena. In last spring’s Western Conference Final, the Barons went 2-2 at Grand Rapids and 1-2 in OKC as the Griffins took the series en route to a Calder Cup championship.
SPECIAL TEAMS TRENDS: During the Barons’ 8-game unbeaten streak, the power play is 13-for-37, 35.1 percent. OKC went 2-for-6 on the power play last night at Grand Rapids. The penalty kill is 24-for-28 (85.7) during the 8-game unbeaten streak. OKC is 10-1-0-1 when scoring 2 or more power-play goals in a game.
