By Jim Byers, on 10/23/2013
Colton Sceviour scored two goals, his fourth and fifth in his last two games, as the Texas Stars squared the season series at 1-1 in defeating the Oklahoma City Barons 4-1 on Wednesday at Cedar Park Center outside Austin, Texas.
The Barons (3-4-0-1) had an four-game unbeaten streak (in regulation) snapped after three wins and a shootout defeat in their previous action. Texas has won four straight and improves to 5-1-1-0.
Sceviour opened the scoring at 12:07 of the first period on a breakaway after an errant pass from the Barons found its way to his stick. The second period was scoreless.
Brett Ritchie scored what proved to be the winning goal 1:29 into the third on a steep-angle shot past Richard Bachman (2-4-1) who stopped 35 of 28 shots. Sceviour added his second on a shot from the mid-slot at 6:46 to make the score 3-0.
Oklahoma City's Matt Ford tallied his first goal as a Baron to make the score 3-1 at 9:13 of the third, putting one over Jack Campbell's shoulder on setups by C.J. Stretch and Taylor Fedun. Campbell made 25 saves in running his record to 2-0-0.
Travis Morin, who extended his point streak to a league-high seven games, added an empty-net goal at 19:32.
The Barons conclude this three-game trip with back-to-back games at San Antonio on Friday (7:30 pm CDT) and Saturday (7 pm) at the AT&T Center.
