By Jim Byers, on 10/12/2013

Johan Gustafsson made 27 saves in his first North American professional start as the Iowa Wild opened their season and franchise with a 1-0 win over the Oklahoma City Barons on Saturday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

Oklahoma City drops to 0-3 on the season, the first time in their four AHL seasons the Barons have been held without a standing point in their first three games.

The Wild, formerly the Houston Aeros, scored the game's only goal 7:06 into the second period. Brett Bulmer converted a 2-on-1, with assists to Jason Zucker and Chad Rau.

It marked the third regular-season 1-0 loss in Barons history and the first by a team other than the San Antonio Rampage. Richard Bachman made 28 saves in falling to 0-3 on the young season.

The teams meet again on Sunday at 4:05 pm CDT in Des Moines. The broadcast can be heard live on KXY 96.1 FM, okcbarons.com or on the subscription video service AHLLive.com.
