AEROS SLIP PAST BARONS IN SHOOTOUT, 2-1

Kris Foucault tucked the deciding goal past Yann Danis in the sixth round of a shootout as the Houston Aeros beat the Barons 2-1 on Thursday at the Toyota Center in Houston.
The shootout defeat stopped the Barons' five-game winning streak and is the first setback of a 7-game road stretch, during which they are 3-0-0-1. Oklahoma City, 11-5-1-2, draws within one point of Charlotte for the South Division lead. Houston, 10-6-1-2, has won four straight and is two points behind Oklahoma City in the South.
The teams traded goals in the first period. Nick Palmieri slipped behind the Barons' defense and put a snap shot past Yann Danis high glove side at 5:01 to give the Aeros a 1-0 lead.
Justin Schultz countered with his 11th of the season by eluding the Aeros at the point, skating into the left-wing circle and wristing a shot past Matt Hackett on the glove side.
Schultz leads the AHL in points with 29 and assists with 18.
The rest of regulation and overtime was scoreless. With the help of the shot credited for winning the shootout, Houston out-shot Oklahoma City 34-24 in winning for the third time in four games in the season series.
Schultz and Toni Rajala scored for the Barons in the shootout, Rajala's forcing the sixth round with the teams tied 2-2. Foucault's winner came in the bottom of the sixth round.
The same teams play Friday at 7:05 pm CST at Houston.
