Houston has 30 points, tied for 4th in the conference.
MR. SATURDAY NIGHT: Jordan Eberle’s 5-point game last night, on 4 goals and 1 assist, matched OKC’s club record. Eberle joins Linus Omark (5 goals on Nov. 7, 2010) and Alexandre Giroux (3G, 2A on Jan. 29, 2011) as the only Barons with 5-point games. Eberle’s 4 goals marked the Barons’ first hat trick since Colin McDonaldscored 4 times against San Antonio April 8, 2011. The Barons had 27 two-goal performances between hat tricks. Eberle’s 4-goal game matches Albany’s Bobby Butlerfor the AHL single game high this season. Butler’s occurred on Wednesday.
MR. SATURDAY NIGHT, PART 2: Mark Arcobello earned 4 assists last night to equal the Barons’ club record achieved several times, most recently by Jordan Eberle on Nov. 13 vs. Toronto.
HOMEBODIES: Last night’s win upped the Barons’ home record to 8-3-1-1, a .692 standing point percentage good for fourth in the AHL. OKC’s 18 home standing points are tied for second with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, 5 behind Abbotsford. The Barons are 5-6-0-1 on the road.
MESSIN’ WITH TEXAS: OKC is in a stretch where 13 of 14 games are against teams based in Texas, spanning Nov. 29-Jan. 1.The only break was Tuesday’s home contest against Peoria. Thirty-six of OKC’s 76 games are against Texas-based teams. The Barons are a combined 6-5-0-2 against Texas teams, 1-4-0-1 on the road. Last night ended a string where 4 out of 5 OKC games were against San Antonio. After today, 4 of the Barons’ next 5 contests are against the Texas Stars, including each of the next 3.
EBERLE JOINS SCHULTZ ATOP POINT RACE: Jordan Eberle’s 5-point game last night brought him into a tie with teammateJustin Schultz for the AHL point lead with 37. Eberle tops the league with 19 goals, 13 in the last 10 games. He’s the CCM/AHL Player of the Month for November. Schultz leads the AHL with 24 assists and 14 power play points. The CCM/AHL Player of the Month for October and Rookie of the Month in November, Schultz has collected multiple points in 13 of 25 games played, including 9 contests with 2 assists. Schultz’s 24 assists are more than half-way to the AHL rookie record for assists by a defenseman, 47, by Mike Gaul of Hershey in 1997-98. He’s 7 goals away from tying the rookie defenseman goal scoring record, set byJohn Slaney of Baltimore in 1992-93.
MORE EBERLE: Jordan Eberle has 11 goals and 14 assists at home this season in 13 games played. His 25 home points by themselves would tie for 10th in the league overall entering today’s games. Eberle would lead or be tied for the lead on 24 of the AHL’s 30 teams just taking into account his 25 home points.
MORE SCHULTZ: Justin Schultz saw a franchise record-equaling 10-game point streak snapped a week ago today, but rebounded with points in each of the last 3 games. He has points in 13 of the last 14 games, collecting 7 goals and 15 assists in that span. Schultz’s 10-game streak from Nov. 10-Dec. 8 remains the second-longest in the AHL this season behind a 12-gamer for Syracuse’s Richard Panik.
ODDS AND ENDS: The Barons are No. 1 in overall power play percentage at 23.6, with 26 goals in 110 opportunities...OKC has successfully killed 53 of their last 61 times short spanning 14 games (86.9)...their season PK rate is 79.1...the Barons have had a lead or tie at the first intermission in 5 straight...OKC and San Antonio have split 24 all-time regular season meetings without ever going to OT or a shootout.
