BARONS EARN 4-2 PRESEASON WIN OVER TEXAS STARS
By Josh Evans, OKC BaronsThe Oklahoma City Barons used a three-goal third period to come from behind and defeat the Texas Stars 4-2 in American Hockey League preseason action last night. Defenseman Mike Egener and forward Dave Bonk each had a goal and an assist, while Teemu Hartikainen chipped in two helpers.
Bonk, who registered two goals in the Blue/White intersquad game last Thursday opened the scoring with over seven minutes to play in the first period with a power-play goal.
Texas would rally for two goals in the second period, the second of which was scored with eight seconds to play in the frame.
The Barons responded with goals in the final frame from Egener, Anthony Aiello and Jarret Lukin. Oklahoma City took advantage of their power-play chances by converting three times with the man advantage. The Barons killed off all six short-handed situations on the night.
Bryan Pitton started for the Barons and stopped 25 of the 27 shots he faced in two periods of work. Rookie netminder Wayne Savage played the final 20 minutes. He stopped all six shots he faced and would earn the win.
Oklahoma City will return home immediately following the game. The team will practice next week in preparation for their first game in the American Hockey League next Saturday at the Cox Convention Center against the Houston Aeros at 7:05 p.m.
