HACKETT HALTS BARONS IN 5-0 LOSS
By LeighAnn Sims,
The Barons intensity was high tonight despite the outcome of the game against the Houston Aeros.
Neither team scored until halfway into the first when the Aeros managed one by Jeff Deslauriers. Matt Kassian was credited for the goal with an assist by Brandon Buck. While the Barons remained scoreless, Houston increased their lead with another goal with only 19 seconds left in the period. Casey Wellman was responsible for the goal with the help of Maxim Noreau and Patrick O’Sullivan. The Aeros defense was stout in holding the Barons to only five shots on goal, compared to the Aeros 12.
The second period mimicked the first with the Aeros finding the back of the net around the midway mark of the frame. At 12:31, Jed Ortmeyer, assisted by Wellman, put another one in the net for the Aeros increasing their lead to 3-0.
O’Sullivan widened the gap even further at the start of the third with his 12th of the year. Six minutes later, Ortmeyer tallied his second goal of the night to make it 5-0.
Deslauriers stopped 25 of the 30 shots he faced, while Matt Hackett stopped all 31 of the Barons shots in his second shutout of the season.
Prior to the game, Barons left wing Teemu Hartikainen was honored with the Reebok Rookie of the Month award for January. Hartikainen had 4 goals, 10 assists in January to earn him the title.
The Barons play again tomorrow at 5 p.m CT. in Cedar Park, Texas. The Barons return home Friday, March 4 against the Abbotsford Heat at 7:05 p.m CT.
