The Oklahoma City Barons won their fifth straight game last night, downing the Texas Stars 6-1 at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City.  Chris Vandevelde scored twice and Johan Motin added two points (1-1-2).

Things didn’t start well for Oklahoma City.  Just over a minute into the game, Stars forward Greg Rallo tipped in a point shot from Phillip Larsen to give Texas a 1-0 lead.

Oklahoma City would wind up taking the lead to the locker room at the end of the first on goals by Chris Vandevelde and Linus Omark.

The Barons padded their lead with a three-goal second period.  Colin McDonald scored at 8:50 with a nifty wrist shot that beat Texas starting goaltender Brent Krahn.  That was followed 48 seconds apart from defenseman Johan Motin and centerman Brad Moran.

Vandevelde added his second of the night with a short-handed goal 6:35 into the third to round out the scoring for Oklahoma City.

Lost in the six-goal outburst was the solid play of Martin Gerber.  Making his fifth straight start, he stopped 29 of the 30 shots he faced for his fifth straight win.  Gerber now leads the AHL in wins with seven.

Oklahoma City wastes no time in getting back into game action as they host the Houston Aeros tomorrow night at the Cox Convention Center at 7:05 p.m.
